Choosing a Pink That Grows Up Well

This is where most rooms go wrong. Hot bubblegum pink is exciting at four. By seven it feels babyish, and by ten it has to go.

Softer pinks age much better. Blush, dusty rose, powder pink and warm peach all keep working as she gets older. Add cream, soft gray or pale gold and the room reads grown up already. You can then push the bright color into bedding, cushions and prints. Those are quick to swap. A wall is not.

Do not feel locked into pink at all. Pale blue, mint, lilac and soft yellow all suit a castle scene. Some of the prettiest rooms we print have no pink in them.

Where to Put a Princess Mural

One wall is plenty. Behind the bed is the classic spot and it works for a reason. She sees it from the doorway, and it frames the bed like a headboard. Four papered walls close a small room in fast, so resist the urge.
