Why the Light Matters Here

These scenes are painted in hard, bright sun. That is the whole point of them. Put one in a dark north-facing room and the effect can fall flat.

There is an easy fix. In a dark room, choose a scene with plenty of white in it. A village wall or a bright sea will bounce what light you have. Save the deep blue and the shaded courtyards for a room that already gets good sun. Warm bulbs help too. Cool white lighting kills this look faster than anything else.
